This value chain focuses on the production and valorisation of biomethane and biofertilisers derived from organic waste. It begins with the sourcing of raw materials such as livestock manure and other biodegradable residues, which are collected from farms and surrounding agricultural activities. These feedstocks are processed in an anaerobic biodigester, where they are transformed into biomethane, a renewable energy carrier that can be used for heat, electricity, or injected into the natural gas grid. Following gas extraction, the remaining digestate is further refined into a range of biofertilisers, including solid compost, liquid fertiliser, and nutrient-rich concentrates, offering sustainable alternatives to conventional synthetic fertilisers. This value chain covers: the sourcing and collection of organic waste, biomethane production and the digestate processing into biofertilisers.
